Calls to Peru’s Fire Department are up. Fire Chief Jeff King says it’s the most calls he’s seen in one year since he’s been chief. There were 472 calls made to the department last year, which is 82 more than 2021. He says a lot of the calls are for activated alarms and car accidents, but the department is also getting a lot of calls for mutual aid.

The reason King says there are more car accidents is because of how many drivers are around during the day, even though the city’s population is under 10,000. He also says that structure fires calls are down from the past year.
