Cleanup after the Carus Chemical fire Wednesday is entering a new phase. LaSalle City Deputy Clerk Brent Bader says the response to the fire at now at the long-term cleanup phase. That mean Carus will start cleaning up after the fire under the oversight of the Illinois and US Environmental Protection Agencies. The US EPA says that there is no concern for the air quality after the agency ended testing. There were also no detections of the potassium permanganate in the Little Vermillion River. Anyone with a pet should contact their veterinarian if they are concerned about the compound. But residents with livestock that were affect can call the Illinois Department of Agriculture at 217-782-4944. Residents with questions or concerns can continue to call the Carus hotline as well at 815-224-6662.
