In Local Sports, in high school boys hoops, Newark beat Plano 57-43 and Seneca rolled St. Bede 73-52 Paxton Giertz led with 21 and Lane Provance added 17. In other local sports, the Marquette Academy 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams picked up victories over Waltham. Leading the 7th Lady knights was Kinley Rick with 13 aces and 4 kills. Kara Killelea added 7 aces and 2 digs while Jakobi Reed served up 5 aces and led with 6 assists. For the 8th grade Lady knights Giada Pattelli with 7 aces and 2 kills. Hunter Hopkins led the offense with 14 assists. Anna Hjerpe led the attack with 4 kills while Kinley Rick swung for 3 kills and Taylor Gamons added 2 in the win. In boys bowling Streator defeated Ottawa. Anthony Dominic led Streator with a 667 series and Brady Grabowski added a 635 for the Bulldogs. High roller for Ottawa was Nelson Brandt with a 552 series and a high game of 209. Evan Spencer added a 530 series and a high game of 206.

(Evanston, IL) — The Northwestern Wildcats lost a back-and-forth battle with Rutgers 65-62 at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Cam Spencer put the Scarlet Knights up with a go-ahead three with 15 seconds left in regulation, and Boo Buie turned the ball over for the Wildcats nine seconds later. After Rutgers hit a pair of free throws, Chase Audige missed a three at the buzzer. The Wildcats dropped to 12-and-4 overall and 3-and-2 in the Big Ten. They are at Michigan on Sunday.

(Washington, DC) — The Bulls were on the wrong end of a game-winning shot during a 100-97 loss to the Wizards at Capital One Arena. Zach LaVine hit a game-tying three with 30 seconds left in regulation, but Washington’s Kyle Kuzma responded with the game-winning three on the ensuing possession. LaVine poured in 38 points in the losing effort. Chicago is in tenth-place in the Eastern Conference at 19-and-23. The Bulls host the Thunder tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL) — The Blackhawks go for their third win in a row when they host the Colorado Avalanche at United Center tonight. The Blackhawks beat Calgary 4-3 in overtime on Sunday. However, Chicago is still in last place in the Central Division with 24 points and a 10-25-and-4 record. Patrick Kane is doubtful to play with a lower-body injury.

(Evanston, IL) — The Northwestern Wildcats football program is looking into hazing allegations. ESPN is reporting that the program began an investigation yesterday. The allegations were reported after the 2022 season concluded. former assistant US Attorney Maggie Hickey will be conducting the independent investigation. Northwestern says that while its not sure whether the allegations are valid, the university “takes these claims seriously.”

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Fire FC are adding an international goalkeeper. The club announced yesterday that Jeff Gal is transferring from Swedish team Degerfors IF. The 29-year-old was born in Chicago, and his deal runs through the 2023 season with options for 2024 and 2025.
