In Local Sports, last night right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Ottawa Pirates fell to Rochelle 72-67 in overtime. Levi Sheehan led with 14. Cooper Knoll added 13 for the Pirates. In other high school boys hoops action, Seneca defeated Coal City 56-43, Morris lost to Pontiac 66-50, Lasalle-Peru was beat by Dunlap 54-43, and St. Bede won over Kewanee 59-48. Serena rolled Leland 80-26. Jimmy Faltz scored 12. The Marquette Crusaders picked up a win over Newark 59-38. Tommy Durdan led with 15. Krew Bond and Griffin Walker added 10 apiece. In local girls high school hoops,  Earlville pulled out a win over Streator 50-38, Lasalle-Peru beat Rochelle 55-44. The Ottawa Lady Pirates rolled Sandwich 55-32. Marlie Orlandi scored 18 and Grace Carroll chipped in 13 for Ottawa. In other local sports the LPO swim team lost to Morris last night. Winners included Bo Weitl, Chris Lowery, Owen Phillips, and Jonathan Neu. The Ottawa boys bowling team placed 5th at the conference tournament. Nelson Brandt led Ottawa with a 1236 series and was named to the all-conference team. Evan Spencer added a 1091 series as well. 

>>Illinois Crushes Nebraska

(Lincoln, NE)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini had no problems with the Nebraska Cornhuskers during a 76-50 rout at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  The Illini outscored the Huskers by double-digits in both halves.  Terrence Shannon Jr. poured in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and four other players had double-digit point totals.  Illinois improves to 11-and-5 overall and 2-and-3 in the Big Ten.  The Illini host Michigan State on Friday night.

 

>>Notre Dame Sneaks Past Georgia Tech

(South Bend, IN)  —  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish barely got past Georgia Tech with a 73-72 overtime victory at Joyce Center.  Trey Wertz hit a three with under a minute left in regulation to tie the game for the Irish and send it to an extra frame.  Nate Laszewski hit two free throws with under 30 seconds left in OT to give Notre Dame the lead for good.  Dane Goodwin led Notre Dame with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.  The Irish are 9-and-8 overall and 1-and-5 in the ACC.  They visit Syracuse on Saturday.

 

>>Northwestern Hosts Rutgers

(Evanston, IL)  —  The Northwestern Wildcats look for their third consecutive win when they take on Rutgers at Welsh-Ryan Arena tonight.  The Wildcats are coming off an 84-83 win over Indiana on Sunday.  Northwestern is 12-and-3 overall and 3-and-1 in the Big Ten.  Tonight’s game tips off at 8:00PM.

(Undated)  —  In other college hoops action yesterday,Northern Illinois crushed Central Michigan 73-54. Today, Bradley hosts Evansville, and Illinois State welcomes Missouri State.

>>Bulls Visit Wizards

(Washington, DC)  —  The Bulls look to get back in the win column when they visit the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena tonight.  The Bulls had their three-game winning streak snapped during a 107-99 loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday.  Chicago is in tenth-place in the Eastern Conference at 19-and-22.  In other Bulls news, forward Javonte Green had right knee surgery yesterday, and his status will be evaluated in two weeks.

 

>>Bears GM Tamps Down Talk Of Taking QB #1 Overall

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The general manager of the Bears isn’t committing to selecting a quarterback first overall in the upcoming NFL Draft.  Speaking to reporters yesterday, Ryan Poles said he would “have to be absolutely blown away to make that type of decision.”  The Bears already have Justin Fields after drafting him in the first round in 2021.  However, the Draft is expected to be QB heavy with names like Alabama’s Bryce Young at the top of the list.
