LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office to not check registration status on assault weapons

LaSalle County Sheriff Adam Diss says the right to keep and bear arms is an inalienable right by the people. He says his office isn’t going to enforce the rule in the Protect Illinois Communities Act that requires people to register assault weapons with the state. He also says his office will not arrest or jail anyone that’s been arrested on the single charge of not registering an assault weapon. He says the bill signed by Gov. Pritzker Tuesday is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution. The comments come from a press release from the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, which also disapproves of the passing of the law. But just because LaSalle County Sheriff’s Deputies won’t be enforcing the law, that doesn’t mean that Illinois State Police or local police agencies won’t.
