A fire at the Carus Chemical Company Wednesday morning in LaSalle is out. Fire Chief Jerry Janick says the LaSalle Fire Deparment was first called to Carus after a report of a structure fire just before nine in the morning. No one was hurt and everyone was accounted for.
After multiple fire departments were called, LaSalle Police Chief Mike Smudzinski says city and Illinois State Police locked the area down.
Janick says the department is going to investigate what caused the fire. A shelter in place order was also put in place in the third and fourth wards of the city near the chemical company. The departments will hold another press conference at LaSalle City Hall at 4pm Wednesday afternoon. The LaSalle Police Department also released a statement about an oxidizer that was released into the air. If you find it around your home, don’t touch it. Use a gallon of water, peroxide, and vinegar to remove it.
