There was an explosion at the Carus Chemical production plant at 1500 8th St. in LaSalle just before 9 this morning. Many people in and around LaSalle felt the shockwave. Numerous emergency agencies are heading there. Carus produces chemicals used in environmental cleanup.
The city of LaSalle is asking residents in the area around the company to shelter in place until further notice. We haven’t learned yet the cause of the fire or if chemicals were involved. LaSalle Police Chief Mike Smudzinski says that all employees a the chemical company have been accounted for. A press conference about the fire will be happening around 11:30. We will have more information when it becomes available
