In high school girls hoops, Seneca lost to Putnam County 29-25. Kennedy Hartwig and Alyssa Zellers scored 10 apiece. Lisle beat Streator 52-32, Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Earlville 50-21, and Hall won over St. Bede 52-43. The Ottawa Lady Pirates fell to Joliet Catholic 52-48 in overtime. Grace Carroll scored 16 and Marlie Orlandi added 8 for the Pirates. Marquette rolled Dwight 55-26. Lily Craig led with 16, Keely Nelson and Chloe Larsen chipped in with 12 apiece.

(Lincoln, NE) — The Illinois Fighting Illini will try to start a winning streak when they visit the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena tonight. Despite a 79-69 win over number-18 Wisconsin on Saturday, the Illini dropped out of the top-25 in the coaches poll that was released yesterday. Illinois is 10-and-5 this season but just 1-and-3 in the Big Ten.

(Boston, MA) — The Bulls fell short in a 16-point comeback-bid during a 107-99 loss to the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. Chicago got within two points with less than 90 seconds left in regulation, by Al Horford hit a game-sealing three with 25 seconds left. Zach LaVine led the way with 27 points, while Nikola Vucevic had 21 to go along with 13 rebounds. The Bulls are in tenth-place in the Eastern Conference at 19-and-22. They visit the Wizards tomorrow night.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Bears wrapped up the regular season by adding seven of their practice squad players to reserve/future contracts. Tight end Chase Allen, wide receiver Nsimba Webster, and safety Adrian Colbert were among those to sign with the team. The Bears begin what should be an exciting offseason with the first-overall draft pick and a lot of salary cap space to lure free agents with.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Fire are adding some depth on defense. The club acquired French defender Arnaud Souquet in a transfer yesterday. His contract will keep him with the Fire through 2025. Souquet played for Montpellier HSC in Ligue 1 last season.

(Evanston, IL) — The Northwestern Wildcats football program is bringing in a new defensive coordinator. The team hired North Dakota State defensive coordinator David Braun yesterday. Braun had been with the Bison since 2019. He takes over for Jim O’Neil, whose defense allowed over 28 points per game last season.
