In Local Sports, last night right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Ottawa Pirates beat Sandwich 48-38. Levi Sheehan and Conner Price both led Ottawa with 13. In other boys high school hoops action last night, Lasalle-Peru defeated Rochelle 68-63, St. Bede lost to Sterling Newman 68-56, Hall won over Mendota 58-44, and Morris fell to Kaneland 63-43. In other local sports, the Ottawa boy’s bowling team lost to Rochelle. Nelson Brandt led Ottawa with a high series of 629 with high games of 238 and 248. Evan Spencer added a 496 series. 

 

>>Bulls Host Nets

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Bulls will try to avoid a third straight loss when they host the Brooklyn Nets at United Center tonight.  The Bulls are coming off a 145-134 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.  However, yesterday’s Last Two Minute Report concluded that officials made two incorrect calls that benefited Cleveland in that loss.  Chicago is tied for 11th-place in the Eastern Conference with a 16-and-21 record.

 

>>Illinois Visits Northwestern

(Evanston, IL)  —  Number-24 Illinois goes for its first Big Ten win when the Illini visit Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena tonight.  Illinois beat Bethune-Cookman 85-52 last Thursday to improve to 9-and-4 overall, but the program is 0-and-2 in conference play.  Meanwhile, Northwestern is coming off a 73-57 loss to number-23 Ohio State on New Year’s Day.  The Wildcats are 10-and-3 overall and 1-and-1 in the Big Ten.

 

>>College Basketball Roundup

(Undated)  —  In college hoops action yesterday, Northern Illinois lost to Akron 76-51.  Tonight, Bradley travels to Murray State and Illinois State hosts Indiana State.

>>Blackhawks Lose Again

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Blackhawks surrendered three third-period goals during a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning at United Center.  Seth Jones scored in the first five minutes of the game to give the Blackhawks an early lead, but Tampa tied it before the first period ended.  After a scoreless second, the Lightning knocked in three goals in the final frame.  Patrick Kane left the game in the second period with an injury.  The Blackhawks have dropped 21 of their last 23 games.  Chicago hosts the Coyotes on Friday.

 

>>Report: Cubs Pursuing Hosmer

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Cubs are trying to bring in a former All-Star.  Jon Heyman is reporting that the Cubs are close to a deal with free agent first baseman Eric Hosmer.  The four-time Gold Glove award winner hit .268 with eight home runs and 44 RBI in 104 total games between the Padres and Red Sox last season.
