In Local Sports, yesterday right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Ottawa Lady Pirates defeated Metamora to claim the Lady Pirate Holiday tournament championship 51-46 in double overtime. Grace Carroll led Ottawa with 18 and was named tournament MVP.  Marlie Orlandi added 11 and was named to the all-tournament team. Tonight on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Ottawa Pirates will take on the Sandwich Indians. Tip is set for 7 with the broadcast beginning at 6:50. In other girls high school hoops action, Joliet Catholic beat Lasalle-Peru 48-43, and IVC rolled Streator 43-12.

>>Bulls Lose To Cavs

(Cleveland, OH)  —  The Chicago Bulls were on the wrong side of a 70-point performance during a 145-134 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.  Donovan Mitchell poured in 71 points against Chicago, including a game-tying put-back with three seconds left in regulation and 13 overtime points.  DeMar DeRozan had 44 points in the losing effort, while Zach LaVine scored 26.  Chicago is tied for 11th place in the Eastern Conference at 16-and-21.  Chicago hosts Brooklyn tomorrow night. 

>>Illinois Basketball Falls In Coaches Poll

(Undated)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini are continuing to drop in the top-25.  The latest coaches poll has the Illini as the number-24 team in the nation, dropping two spots since last week.  Illinois beat Bethune-Cookman 85-52 in their only game last week.  The Fighting Illini are 9-and-4 overall and 0-and-2 in the Big Ten.  Illinois is at Northwestern tomorrow.

>>Blackhawks Host Lightning

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Chicago Blackhawks continue their seven-game homestand when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning at United Center tonight.  The Blackhawks are coming off a 5-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Sunday, and they’ve lost 20 of their last 22 games.  Chicago is in last place in the Central Division with 20 points and an 8-24-and-4 record.  Tonight’s contest begins at 7:30 PM. 

 

>>Bears Debating Fields Status

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The Chicago Bears may shut down their starting quarterback.  Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters yesterday that the team is still discussing whether or not to start Justin Fields in Chicago’s season finale.  The comments come a day after Eberflus said that Fields would play if he’s healthy.  Fields has 17 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions to go with 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.  The 3-and-13 Bears wrap up their season against the Vikings on Sunday. 

>>Illinois Football Loses ReliaQuest Bowl

(Tampa, FL)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini ended their 2022 football season with a 19-10 loss to number-22 Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl at Raymond James Stadium.  The Illini didn’t trail until Bulldogs kicker Massimo Biscardi hit a go-ahead field goal with four seconds left in regulation.  Illinois tried to lateral their way into the end zone on the last play of the game, but Mississippi State took the football and scored a touchdown as time expired.  Isaiah Williams caught nine passes for 114 yards in the losing effort, and Tommy Devito passed for 253 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.  The Illini finished the season with an 8-and-5 record overall and a 5-and-4 mark in the Big Ten.
