Cong. Adam Kinzinger, in a goodbye tweet last night, wished Kevin McCarthy good luck. McCarthy is the U.S. House Republican leader who’s vying to be the House Speaker. Kinzinger is a Channahon Republican who didn’t run for reelection after more than a decade in Congress. The next Congressional term starts today.
“Thank you, IL-16. Good luck, Kevin. Kinzinger out.”
Kinzinger fell out of favor with a lot of Republicans for whom support of Donald Trump is a requirement to be in good standing. That contrasts with 2010 when Kinzinger emerged from a five-way contest with a majority of the vote in the primary. One of his four opponents dropped out and gave Kinzinger his support. Kinzinger says the Republican Party needs to get back to conservative principles and not just backing Donald Trump.
