Top stories of 2022: Peru swears in city’s first female police chief

By WCMY News Jan 1, 2023 | 5:31 AM

The city of Peru swore in its first female police chief back in November, which is why it’s another one of our top stories of 2022. Police Chief Sarah Raymond was the deputy chief under Robert Pyszka before he announced his retirement in early November. She says as chief she wants to create some new positions because the department has a lot of young officers all of a sudden. She also talked about how becoming the first female police chief in the city is a very big honor to have. She might be the first woman police chief in LaSalle County, although WCMY was told that there could have been a female police chief in Earlville. We have asked the Earlville Police Department to find out but they haven’t gotten back to us with the information.
