In Local Sports, yesterday right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Ottawa Pirates defeated Lisle 65-55 at the Plano Christmas Classic. Levi Sheehan led with 18. Cooper Knoll added 16 for Ottawa. The Marquette Crusaders pulled out a victory over Earlville to advance to the semi-finals of the Marquette Christmas Tournament 55-46. Tommy Durdan had 16 and Krew Bond chipped in 12 for the Cru. Tonight on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM we will have another double header Starting at 5:30 as the Ottawa Pirates will take on Marmion Academy with pregame beginning at 5:20. The Marquette Crusaders will play Reed-Custer at 8 with the broadcast beginning around 7:50. In other high school boys hoops action yesterday, Serena won over Lexington 63-62 in double overtime, Seneca rolled Hall 66-44, Streator pulled out a win 57-51 over Hinckley-Big Rock, and St. Bede beat Indian Creek 86-50. In girls high school hoops, Seneca picked up two wins 45-41 over St. Bede and 42-39 over Putnam County. The Marquette Lady Cru lost to Eureka 70-50. Lily Craig led with 32 for Marquette. Serena fell to Roanoke-Benson 52-51. Makayla McNally scored 16 for the Lady Huskers.

(South Bend, IN) — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish turned it on after halftime to beat Jacksonville 59-43 at Joyce Center. The Irish outscored Jacksonville 38-244 in the second half after scoring just 21 points before the break. Marcus Hammond led the way with 15 points off the bench. Notre Dame snapped a three-game losing streak and is now 8-and-5 overall and 0-and-2 in the ACC. The Fighting Irish host number-16 Miami on Friday.

(Raleigh, NC) — The Blackhawks couldn’t get the puck past Antti Raanta in a 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh. The Blackhawks were outshot 49-24 in the losing effort. Petr Mrazek stopped 46 shots. Chicago remains in last place in the Central Division with 20 points and an 8-21-and-4 record. They visit the Blues tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Fire FC are making some roster moves. The club announced that defender Jhon Espinoza is transferring to FC Lugano in the Swiss Super League. FC Lugano is also owned by Chicago Fire owner Joe Mansueto. Additionally, the Fire are acquiring winger Maren Haile-Selassie on loan from FC Lugano. Haile-Selassie will be with Chicago through at least the end of the 2023 MLS season.
