In Local Sports, last night on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Marquette Crusaders rolled Woodland 77-38. Krew Bond led with 16 and Denver Trainer chipped in with 12 for the Cru. Today on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM we will have a double-header with the Ottawa Pirates playing Lisle at the Plano Christmas Classic. Tip is set for 12:30 with pre-game beginning at about 12:20. The Marquette Crusaders will play Earlville in the second round of the Marquette Christmas Tournament. Tip is set for 8:00 with the broadcast beginning at about 7:50. In other boys high school hoops, Seneca defeated Indian Creek 80-31. Paxton Giertz had 33 for Seneca. Serena pulled out a win over Dwight 61-54. Carson Baker led with 14. Hall beat St. Bede 62-50, and Earlville defeated Gardner-South Wilmington 70-48.

>>Illinois Basketball Drops In Coaches Poll

(Undated)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini are moving in the wrong direction of the top-25.  The Illini fell six spots from number-16 to number-22 after losing their only game last week.  Illinois fell to unranked Mizzou 93-71 last Thursday.  Illinois is 8-and-4 overall and 0-and-2 in the Big Ten this season.  The Fighting Illini host Bethune-Cookman this Thursday night.

>>Notre Dame Hosts Jacksonville

(South Bend, IN)  —  The Notre Dame basketball team will try to snap a three-game losing streak when the Fighting Irish host Jacksonville at Joyce Center tonight.  The Irish lost to Florida State 73-72 last Wednesday.  Notre Dame is 7-and-5 overall and 0-and-2 in the ACC this season.

>>Bulls Lose To Rockets

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Bulls had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 133-118 loss to the Houston Rockets at United Center.  Chicago trailed by as many as 19 points in the loss.  DeMar DeRozan led the Bulls with 31 points, while Zach LaVine finished the night with 22.  The Bulls remain in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with a 14-and-19 record.  Chicago hosts Milwaukee tomorrow night.

 

>>Blackhawks Visit Hurricanes

(Raleigh, NC)  —  The Blackhawks will try to get a winning streak started when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena tonight.  Chicago snapped its eight-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets last Friday.  The Blackhawks are still in last place in the Central Division with 20 points and an 8-20-and-4 record.

>>Bears Will Keep Starting Fields

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The Chicago Bears aren’t planning on shutting down their superstar quarterback.  Head coach Matt Eberflus announced yesterday that Fields will start both of Chicago’s final two games despite suffering a pair of injuries in a loss to the Bills in Week 16.  Fields injured his non-throwing shoulder and had his foot stepped on during the 35-13 loss, but he said he would be “good to go” moving foward.  The 3-and-12 Bears visit the Lions on New Year’s Day.

 

>>Buchner Will Start Bowl Game For Irish

(Jacksonville, FL)  —  The Notre Dame football team has selected its starting quarterback for this year’s Gator Bowl.  Head coach Marcus Freeman told reporters yesterday that Tyler Buchner earned the start for the number-21 Fighting Irish.  Buchner was battling against freshman Steve Angeli for the start.  Buchner completed 28 of his 50 pass attempts for 378 yards and two interception this season.  He also rushed for two touchdowns.  Notre Dame goes up against number-19 South Carolina in the Gator Bowl on Friday.
