Mother and child perish in fire day before Christmas

A mother and child lost their lives in a fire the day before Christmas in Ottawa. Fire Chief Brian Bressner says a teenage boy got out of the apartment in the 1500 block of Sycamore St. He was treated for smoke inhalation at St. Elizabeth Hospital. But the woman and child were unresponsive inside a bedroom. Fire fighters found heavy fire in the kitchen and living room areas. Bressner says the fire appears to have been accidental.
