Ottawa police officers can live farther out of the city. An agreement the City Council approved with the union representing the police officers lets them live up to 40 miles away. Mayor Dan Aussem says that’s about twice as far away as before.
One officer wants to live in a farther community with her boyfriend, but she also got a job offer from another community. Aussem says the city would rather keep the officer on the roster than lose the experience because she lives too far away.
