The old Riordan Pool building is gone and the new one is going up already. One of our top stories of 2022 is the $6.7 million project the Ottawa City Council approved this year.
The pool was closed this year, because the city opted not to spend money on maintenance and short-term rehabilitation with the new pool project coming. Commissioner Marla Pearson promised after the September bid award that the new pool will be open for the summer of 2023.
The city borrowed $5.2 million to help pay for the pool. City Commissioner James Less felt the city should have asked voters if they want to spend the money.
The old Riordan Pool was there since 1965.
