Serena defeated Hinckley-Big Rock 32-26. Jenna Setchell scored 17. The Marquette Lady Cru lost to Roanoke-Benson 54-44. Makayla Backos had 13. Lily Craig and Avery Durdan both added 12 apiece. The Ottawa Lady Pirates pulled out a win over Seneca 42-28. Marlie Orlandi led with 13. Kendall Lowery chipped in with 12 for Ottawa. In other sports, The Ottawa boys bowling team lost to St. Bede. High roller was Nelson Brandt with a series high 631 and high games of 229 and 223. Wil Znaniecki added a 525 and a high game of 191.

Yesterday’s coaches poll had Illinois dropping two spots from number-17 to number-19 after the team beat previously-ranked number-two Texas and lost to unranked Penn State. The 7-and-3 Fighting Illini are at home against Alabama A&M this Saturday.

(Chicago, IL) — The Blackhawks will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Washington Capitals at United Center tonight. The Blackhawks are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets last Friday which dropped them to 7-15-and-4 on the season. Chicago is in last place in the Central Division with 18 points.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Bears are getting a little bit healthier. The team removed rookie defensive backs Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker from the concussion protocol yesterday. Both players suffered the injury on November 20th, and they’ve each missed the last two games. The Bears host the Eagles on Sunday.

(Champaign, IL) — The Illinois Fighting Illini are strengthening their roster for next season. East Carolina offensive lineman Avery Jones announced yesterday that he is transferring to the football program, while class of 2023 recruit Collin Dixon committed to Illinois yesterday. Dixon is a three-star wide receiver out of Ohio. Avery Jones played in 12 games for ECU last season. Meanwhile, the current Illini roster is gearing up for the ReliaQuest Bowl against number-22 Mississippi State on January 2nd.

(Notre Dame, IN) — The Notre Dame football team is losing one of its tight ends. Back-up Cane Berrong entered the transfer portal yesterday. Berrong appeared in three games for Notre Dame in 2021. Number-21 Notre Dame takes on number-19 South Carolina in the Gator Bowl on December 30th.
