In Local Sports, in high school boys hoops, last night right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Marquette Crusaders rolled Indian Creek 81-41. Tommy Durdan led with 19, Charlie Mullen chipped in with 12 for the Cru. Seneca beat Gardner-South Wilmington 57-41, Lasalle-Peru crushed Sycamore 59-39, and Streator won 59-30 over Manteno. Christian Benning scored 27 for the Bulldogs. Serena pulled out the win over Sandwich 59-54 in overtime. Cam Figgins led with 22. In girls high school hoops, Lasalle-Peru won over Sandwich 59-26, Princeton beat St. Bede 47–30. The Ottawa Lady Pirates rolled Rochelle 63-33. Marlie Orlandi led with 13 and Hailey Larsen added 10 for Ottawa. The LPO Boys Swim team picked up a victory last night over Morris. Winners included, Bo Weitl, Jonathan Neu, Chris Lowery, Owen Phillips, Tucker Ditchfield, and Griffin Sharp.

(Chicago, IL) — The Bulls begin a two-game home series with the New York Knicks at United Center tonight. Chicago is coming off a last-second 123-122 overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday. The Bulls are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference at 11-and-15. The Bulls will host a second game against the Knicks on Friday night. In other team news, the NBA announced yesterday that its Most Valuable Player award will be named after Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

(Champaign, IL) — The Illinois Fighting Illini are in the market for a new defensive coordinator. Ryan Walters was hired away by Purdue to become the Boilermakers new head coach. Walters joined the Illinois staff prior to the 2021 season. The Illini gave up just 12-point-two points per game in 2022, which was the best in the FBS.

(Chicago, IL) — Blackhawks fans got to witness a piece of hockey history in Chicago’s 7-3 loss to the Washington Capitals at United Center. Caps forward Alex Ovechkin became just the third NHL player to reach 800 career goals. The Blackhawks surrendered a hat trick to the hockey legend, and they never led in the contest. Max Domi, Jonathan Toews, and Tyler Johnson scored in the losing effort. Chicago has dropped 12 of its last 13 games and remains in last place in the Central Division with 18 points. The Hawks host the Golden Knights tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL) — The Cubs are adding some organizational depth in the outfield. The team signed center fielder Ben DeLuzio to a minor league contract yesterday. The deal includes an invitation to spring training. The 28-year-old made his MLB debut with St. Louis last season, and he hit .150 in 22 games. In other team news, the Cubs lost out on Carlos Correa after the free agent shortstop signed a 13-year deal with the Giants yesterday.
