Solar energy site allowed on farm east of Grand Ridge

A 77-acre solar power farm will be developed two miles east of Grand Ridge. The LaSalle County Board approved the special use permit this week for Ted Trager.

Seven members objected to good farm soil going idle for solar power. Douglas Stockley spoke against taking good farm soil out of production.

Member Brian Dose, in the majority, said the property owner should be allowed because he’s not taking the land permanently out of production like a sand mine would.

Board member Douglas Trager abstained. He says he’s not related to Ted Trager, but he doesn’t want anyone thinking there’s a conflict.
