Company wiring Oglesby for fiber-optic internet plans overhead lines

Surf Internet could offer high speed internet in Oglesby next year. Pat McCauley with the company told the City Council this past week, his teams can start installing fiber and equipment in February or March. The first customers could get internet service three or four months after that.

The first area would probably be downtown Oglesby. It could take a few years to cover the whole city. McCauley’s reluctant to say how long it could take because of how hard it is to predict delays.

The company is also installing fiber-optic internet in other areas in Illinois. The plan in Oglesby is to go overhead. McCauley says going underground is taking a long time lately because the utility locating services are back up by weeks. Since the city owns most of the more than 700 utility poles in town and the City Council wants the service to be installed, negotiation for permission to use them should go smoothly.
