In Local Sports, in girls high school hoops, Streator lost to Coal City 53-21. Marisa Vickers scored seven. Earlville defeated Depue 40-18. Madyson Olson led the way with 24 for Earlville. Seneca pulled out a win over Roanoke-Benson 48-43. Kennedy Hartwig had 18 in the game. Serena beat Somonauk 40-30. Paisley Twait led the way for Serena with 16. Jenna Setchell and Makayla McNally chipped in with 10 apiece. In boys high school hoops, Mendota defeated St. Bede 65-58. In other local sports, The Ottawa boys bowling team lost to Geneseo. They were led by Nelson Brandt with a series high 620 and high games of 224,216. Evan Spencer added a series of 576 and a high game of 200. Wil Znaniecki added a 546 and a high game of 201. The Marquette Academy eighth grade girls basketball team is headed to the IESA State tournament after their Sectional Championship win over Ransom- St. Michael 40-13. Anna Hjerpe scored 15 and Hunter Hopkins added 13.

The Illini are riding high after an 85-78 win over number-two Texas on Tuesday. Illinois is 7-and-2 overall, but the team lost its only Big Ten game against number-13 Maryland last Friday. The Fighting Illini look to get their first conference win in tomorrow’s game, which begins at 11:00AM.
