Update: Just over $49K raised for Ottawa Food Pantry during Freezin for a Reezin

By WCMY News Dec 2, 2022 | 12:40 PM

Friday is the 14th annual Freezin for a Reezin. Money and food donations are being collected to benefit the Ottawa Community Food Basket. This year’s event is different compared to last year. Food donations are being collected next to the WCMY studios at the corner of LaSalle and Lafayette St. instead of at the Handy Foods parking lot. Tom Ziel is helping collect food and says although it’s a smaller version of past years, it’s still okay.

Money was being collected inside Handy Food’s. Jim Sullivan said at about 10am, they collected about $1,500.

As of Friday, the unofficial total is about $49,090 in donations. Around three Friday afternoon there was about 6,000 pounds of food collected as well. Donations will still be coming in over the weekend, so the total amount could continue to go up.
