In Local Sports, in grade school girls hoops, the Sheperd 8th grade Lady Rams defeated Plano 28-13 to advance to the IESA Regional Championship. Ashlynn Ganiere had 12 points and Alaina Schulz had 7 points in the victory. In boys grade school hoops the 7th grade Wallace Warriors defeated Nettle Creek 35-0. Jake Torres had 15 points and seven rebounds in the victory. Caden Roether added five points as well. The 8th grade team was also victorious 28-23. Jack Carroll led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds. Billy Besse added five points and four steals in the winning effort. In boys high school hoops, Earlville fell to Sandwich last night 58-36. Griffin Cook led the way for Earlville with 13 points in the losing effort. In girls high school hoops, the Ottawa Lady Pirates fell to Dixon 43-34. Marlie Orlandi led the way for the Pirates with 14 points and seven rebounds. Hailey Larsen added eight points as well in the losing effort for the Pirates.

(Phoenix, AZ) — The Chicago Bulls weren’t able to slow down the Devin Booker in a 132-113 loss to the Phoenix Suns at Footprint Center. Chicago surrendered 51 points to the Suns guard, who only played three quarters. The Bulls never led in the contest and trailed by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter. DeMar DeRozan had 29 points in the losing effort, and Zach LaVine finished with 21. The 9-and-12 Bulls visit the Warriors tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 after a wild third period at United Center. Each team scored three goals in the final frame, with Max Domi lighting the lamp for Chicago with under 70 seconds left in regulation to make it a one-point game. However, the Blackhawks couldn’t find the net in the final minute and suffered their eighth loss in a row. Domi had two goals in the losing effort. The Blackhawks remain in the bottom of the Central Division with 16 points and a 6-12-and-4 record. Chicago visits the Rangers on Saturday.

(South Bend, IN) — The Notre Dame men’s basketball team pulled off an upset over number-20 Michigan State. The Fighting Irish beat the Spartans 70-52 at Joyce Center last night. Notre Dame stormed out to a 42-24 lead at halftime and was able to cruise to victory in the second half. Cormac Ryan poured in 23 points in the victory. The Irish improved to 6-and-1, and they host Syracuse on Saturday.

(Undated) — In other college basketball action yesterday, Bradley took down Northern Iowa 68-53, Northern Illinois crushed Eastern Illinois 90-70, and Southern Illinois defeated Evansville 80-53. Tonight, Illinois State is at Murray State.
>>Six Bears Miss Practice
(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears injury woes aren’t getting any better. A day after placing safety Eddie Jackson and wide receiver Darnell Mooney on injured reserve, Chicago had six players miss practice. Yesterday’s initial injury report revealed that offensive linemen Larry Borom and Riley Reiff, defensive backs Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon, wide receiver Dante Pettis, and quarterback Trevor Siemian were all out of action. Additionally, starting quarterback Justin Fields and wide receiver Chase Claypool were both limited at practice. The Bears signed Tim Boyle from the Lions’ practice squad to add some depth at quarterback. Chicago hosts Green Bay on Sunday.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Sky have announced their slate of games for the 2023 WNBA season. Chicago opens up the 40-game campaign with a road game against the Minnesota Lynx on May 19th. The Sky will have their home opener on May 26th against Washington. The season will come to an end on September 10th when Chicago visits Connecticut.
