In Local Sports, in high school girls hoops Seneca defeated Putnam County last night 36-27. Faith Baker led the way for Seneca with 12 points and Kennedy Hartwig added nine points as well in the victory. The Marquette Lady Crusaders defeated Dwight 48-45. Ava McCallum led the way with 17 points and six rebounds. Lily Craig added 12 points and seven rebounds and Avery Durdan had 10 points in the victory. Lisle defeated Streator 43-31. Marisa Vickers led the way for Streator with 10 points. The Ottawa Lady Pirates defeated Serena 51-32. Paisley Twait led the way for Serena with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jenna Setchell added 10 points and eight rebounds of her own in the loss. For Ottawa, Grace Carroll led the way with 15 points. Hailey Larson added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win for Ottawa. In high school boys hoops, the Marquette Crusaders will open up their season tonight when they hit the road to take on rival St. Bede. >>Bulls Come Back To Beat Jazz

(Salt Lake City, UT)  —  The Chicago Bulls overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half to beat the Utah Jazz 114-107 at Vivint Arena.  The Bulls outscored Utah 33-20 in the third quarter to propel the comeback and kept the Jazz at a distance in the fourth.  DeMar DeRozan poured in 26 points, while Zach LaVine chipped in with 20.  Chicago has won three of its last four games to improve to 9-and-11.  The Bulls visit the Suns tomorrow night. 

>>Northwestern Basketball Falls To Pitt

(Evanston, IL)  —  The Northwestern Wildcats are on a two-game losing streak following an 87-58 loss to Pitt in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge at Welsh-Ryan Arena last night.  The Wildcats played a strong first half and only trailed by nine at halftime, but they were outscored by 20 points in the second.  Chase Audige scored 14 points in the losing effort.  The 5-and-2 Wildcats open up Big Ten play with a game against number-20 Michigan State on Sunday night. 

>>Illinois Basketball Hosts Syracuse

(Champaign, IL)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini will try to get a winning streak going when they host Syracuse at State Farm Center tonight.  The Fighting Illini dropped three spots in yesterday’s coaches poll and are now ranked number-17.  Illinois is coming off a 92-59 rout of Lindenwood that lifted the team to 5-and-1 overall.  Tonight’s contest tips off at 6:30 PM. 

>>Bears WR Mooney To Miss Rest Of 2022

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The injuries are continuing to mount for the Chicago Bears.  Head coach Matt Eberflus announced yesterday that starting wide receiver Darnell Mooney will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.  Mooney suffered the setback in the second half of Chicago’s loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, and he’ll likely have the season-ending surgery this week.  The 25-year-old has 40 catches for 493 yards and two touchdowns this year.  The Bears host Green Bay this Sunday. 

 

>>Abreu Signs With Astros

(Undated)  —  The Jose Abreu-era of White Sox baseball is officially coming to an end.  The former Chicago first baseman reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Houston Astros yesterday.  The 35-year-old spent the last nine seasons with the Southsiders, making the All-Star game three times and winning the American League MVP Award in 2020.  Abreu hit .304 with 15 home runs and 75 RBI in his final season with the Sox.
