Seneca fire and ambulance service asking to raise property tax levy for first time in nine years

The Seneca Fire Protection and Ambulance District hasn’t been allowed to raise its property tax levy for nine years. And after a levy increase vote next week, it won’t be allowed to again for five more years. President Gerry Johnson says the jump from $698,582 per year to $,020,940 isn’t far out of line with a year-to-year increase over that much time.

Holding the property tax levy steady is part of the LaSalle Station nuclear power plant tax assessment agreement the district and 10 others have with Constellation Energy. A public hearing on the tax levy will be held at seven next Thursday evening at the Seneca Fire and Emergency Service building.
