Starting Wednesday, the intersection of U.S 6 and IL 178 north of Utica is being turned back into a four-way stop. That’s because the Illinois Department of Transportation is taking down the stop lights for the winter due to the end of the construction season. IDOT has been working since May to turn the intersection into a roundabout. The $2.4 million project was supposed to be done this fall but now IDOT says it won’t be done until early next summer. Drivers should allow for more time to get through the intersection with all the traffic that goes through the area. The four-way stop will last through winter and into spring.
