Oglesby considering ten Flock Safety cameras

By WCMY News Nov 27, 2022 | 4:38 AM

Oglesby’s city council is considering having ten Flock cameras installed. Flock Safety is a company that’s installing cameras all across the U.S. for local police departments and bothering some privacy advocates.

Police Chief Doug Hayse says the cameras and a computer logging system temporarily note license plates, car colors, and other identifying features in case police need to check them out. That way they can find stolen cars, crime suspects, or kidnapping victims faster.

Hayse says information not flagged for an investigation is deleted after 30 days. Another privacy protection is not sharing information with other departments that don’t restrict its use the same way he proposes Oglesby should.

Oglesby commissioners placed a two-year, $55,100 deal on file last week.
