Supply chain issues causing LaSalle to not receive communication device for water meters

It’s taking a long time for the city of LaSalle to get a part that helps read a home’s water meter. City Finance Director John Duncan says the Water Meter Transmission Unit, or MTU, sends the water meter reading to the city so they don’t have to send a city worker to a house to read the meter every month. But several of the MTU’s have stopped working at more than 200 homes in the city. Duncan says the city would normally replace the MTU’s but due to supply chain issues, they haven’t been getting them for the last three months.

He says members of the LaSalle City Council might be receiving more phone calls from residents about their water meter readings. That’s because residents who don’t have working MTU’s will have to tell the city what their meter reading is. The city is trying to work on the issue and Duncan says they hope to get a handle on it as soon as possible.
