In Local Sports, On Tuesday the Shepherd 7th Grade Lady Rams defeated Coal City 14-8.Kennedy Kane had 6 points. Chloe Thrush had 4 points. The Shepherd 8th Grade Lady Rams defeated Coal City 31-2. Ashlynn Ganiere had 16 points 9 rebounds Meredith Waldron had 9 points. In high school girls hoops Putnam County Defeated Streator 47-28.  At Dettore’s Town Lanes on Wednesday, the host Ottawa boys bowling team defeated the visiting Hall Red Devils 2,785-2,017. Nolan Brandt’s 631 series (224, 222 high games) led the Pirates. Evan Spencer was next in line with a 510 (202). In action tonight the Ottawa Lady Pirates will take on Peoria Notre Dame at the Prairie Central Tournament. At the Falcon-Irish Tournament the Marquette Lady Cru will take on Fieldcrest in a matchup of 2-0 teams. 

>>Bulls Fall To Pelicans

(New Orleans, LA)  —  The Chicago Bulls were crushed by the New Orleans Pelicans in a 124-110 loss at Smoothie King Center.  The Bulls took a five-point lead early in the second quarter, but the Pelicans took control from there and led by as many as 26 points in the fourth.  DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 28 points in the losing effort, and Zach LaVine finished with 25.  The Bulls have lost their last three contests to fall to 6-and-9.  They host the Magic tomorrow night. 

>>Blackhawks Lose To Blues

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Chicago Blackhawks gave up three goals in the second period of their 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues at United Center.  Arvid Soderblom made 30 saves in the losing effort.  The 6-7-and-3 Blackhawks visit the Bruins on Saturday night. 

>>Candace Parker Coming Back For 16th Season

(Undated)  —  The Chicago Sky have a chance to bring Candace Parker back to the fold for 2023.  The free agent forward announced that she plans to return for her 16th season as long as her body holds up.  Parker signed a two-year deal with the Sky prior to the 2021 season.  She led Chicago to a WNBA Championship later that season, and averaged 13-point-two points and eight-point-six rebounds per game in her second year with the team last season.  Parker is one of a handful of core players from Chicago entering free agency this season, including Courtney Vandersloot and Emma Meesseman. 

>>Fighting Irish Basketball Beats Southern Indiana

(South Bend, IN)  —  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish remain undefeated following an 82-70 win over Southern Indiana at Joyce Center.  Notre Dame raced out to a 17-point lead at halftime and was able to coast to the finish.  Trey Wertz scored 20 points in the victory, while Nate Laszewski had 18 points and ten boards.  The 3-and-0 Fighting Irish take on Lipscomb tomorrow night.

(Undated)  —  In other college basketball action,  Tonight, Illinois State hosts Northwestern State, Southern Illinois Hosts Tennessee State and Northern Illinois visits Georgia Tech. 

 

>>Fields Earns Ground Player Of The Week Award

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  NFL fans are showing Justin Fields some love after his big game against the Lions on Sunday.  The Bears quarterback was voted the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week yesterday.  Fields rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries in a 31-30 loss to Detroit.  In other team news, five players missed practice yesterday, including starting running back David Montgomery and starting tight end Cole Kmet.  

>>Cease Finishes As Runner-Up In AL Cy Young

(Chicago, IL)  —  Dylan Cease fell just short of his first career American League Cy Young Award yesterday.  The White Sox ace finished in second place in the award voting behind the unanimous winner from Houston, Justin Verlander.  Cease received 14 second-place votes and ten third-place votes.  The 26-year-old went 14-and-8 with a 2.20 ERA and 227 strikeouts in 184 innings pitched this past season.

(Undated)  —  In college football action yesterday, Northern Illinois lost to Miami of Ohio 29-23.
