>>Blackhawks Get Shut-Out By Hurricanes

 

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Chicago Blackhawks couldn’t get the puck in the net Monday night as they fell 3-0 to the Carolina Hurricanes at the United Center.  The Blackhawks are now 6-6-and-3.  They host the Blues tomorrow night. 

>>Fighting Illini Basketball Crushes Monmouth

(Champaign, IL)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini dominated Mounmouth in a 103-65 win at State Farm Center.   Terrence Shannon Jr. led the way with 30 points, and Jayden Epps poured in 21.  Illinois improves to 3-and-0 on the season, and the team moved up three spots in the top-25 and is now ranked number-20.  The Fighting Illini take on number-seven UCLA on Friday. 

>>Northwestern Basketball Takes On Georgetown

(Washington, DC)  —  The Northwestern Wildcats look to stay undefeated when they take on Georgetown at Capital One Arena tonight.  The Wildcats crushed Northern Illinois 63-46 on Friday to improve to 2-and-0.  Tonight’s game will be a part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games, and it gets started at 5:30 PM.

(Undated)  —  In other college basketball action  Bradley hosts Eastern Michigan tonight. 

 

>>Cubs Cut Heyward

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Chicago Cubs are officially parting ways with one of the final members of their 2016 World Series squad.  The team released outfielder Jason Heyward yesterday.  The team announced in August that it would be moving on from Heyward in the offseason, and the outfielder didn’t play in the final three months of the season.  The 33-year-old spent seven seasons with the Cubs, and he hit .204 with one home run and ten RBI last season.  Heyward was entering the final year of an eight-year contract, and Chicago will still owe him 22-million dollars for 2023. 

 

>>Bears Enter Week 11

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The Chicago Bears are heading into Week 11 of the NFL season.  The team is in last place in the NFC North after a 31-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday dropped them to 3-and-7.  Justin Fields continues to play well on a weekly basis, but Chicago has given up at least 31 points in each of their last three games.  The Bears will try to shore up the defense when they visit the Falcons this Sunday. In the Monday night football game last night the Washington Commanders upset the undefeated Eagles 32-21 in the Nfc east showdown.  

In Local sports the Marquette Academy girls 8th grade basketball team defeated the Wallace Warriors in the Vermilion River conference championship game this past weekend. Kelsey Cuchra led the way with 9 points for the Crusaders and Anna Hjerpe added 8 points. In High school girls basketball at the Falcon-Irish tournament the Serena Huskers defeated the Hall red devils 49-37. Gwynth O’Connell led the way with 23 points and 5 rebounds for the Huskers Paisley Twait added 7 points and 10 rebounds and Jenna Setchell chipped in 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the win. La Salle-Peru 69, Somonauk 24. The Seneca Fighting Irish defeated Herscher 37-26 in the first round of the Falcon-Irish Tournament. Earlville fell 43-27 to West Chicago at the IMSA tournament. The Marquette Lady Cru defeated Flanagan Cornell 60-44 last night at the Falcon-Irish Tournament. Lily Craig Scored 27 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Marquette. Eva McCallum 13 Pts 9 Rebs and Avery Durdan 8 Pts 5 Rebs as well for the Cru. The Ottawa Lady Pirates defeated Pontiac last night in the first game of the Prairie Central tournament  by a score of 58-33. The Pirates were led by Grace Carroll  with 13 points. Hailey Larsen added 11 points, Kendall Lowery 10 and Morgan Stone eight points
