Oglesby commissioner abstaining from certain votes to hold out for plan commission action

Oglesby businesses and residents who want permits and variances that go through the city’s plan commission can expect one fewer supporter on the city council. Jason Curran has started abstaining during votes on Plan Commission recommendations. He plans to keep doing that until the commission answers a seven-month old request to review some rules the city’s considering.

One of the rules would require inspections of backup power generators to make sure they aren’t hooked up in a way that can shock electrical workers restoring power in the city. Curran says the safety rules are too important to just let them go.
