For Kiwanis Club Kids Day at the Ottawa City Council meeting last night, Sawyer Ernat of Marquette Academy played the role of Mayor Dan Aussem. He called it an awesome experience. Or did he mean an Aussem experience?
Maggie Wiegman of Shepherd Middle School read agenda items and called roll for City Clerk Shelly Munks.
In all, 11 students from Marquette and the Ottawa Elementary School District were there. They voted and explained how the city’s doing. To keep it legal, city council members told them what to say. Votes on behalf of Commissioner Tom Ganiere weren’t recorded, because he wasn’t actually there.
The kids also toured city buildings over the weekend.
