The 14th Annual Honor Guard Vigil starts this Friday in Ottawa. John Duback with the American Legion Post 33 says the legion and other groups will take 96 fifteen minute shifts in front of Memorial Plaza in Washington Square Park for 24 hours.

Duback says there are some shifts that need to be filled from ten to midnight on Friday and two to five on Saturday afternoon. There is a sign up sheet at the American Legion building on the commanders board. An opening ceremony will start at 4:40pm with the first honor guard shift starting at five. The event will also have the avenue of flags which honors veterans that are living or dead and military vehicles on display. There will be music from “Flutes for Vets” on both days as well as the “Tunes of Glory” Bagpipers from three to five on Saturday. The vigil ends at five on Saturday with closing remarks and the playing of “Taps.” Duback says the public is encouraged to attend to see the vigil. There will be a tent set up with hot drinks and snacks.
