The weekend started with high school playoff football. On WCMY Friday night the Ottawa suffered a tough loss at Mahomet-Seymour 40-12. Ryder Miller and Dillian Quatrano each rushed for a touchdown for the Pirates.
On Saturday afternoon on WCMY Marquette rallied in the second half to win at home over Morrison 20-6. The Crusaders will now head to Dakota high school on Saturday at 1pm to take on the Indians in round two for class 1A football.
Other local teams moving on to round two of IHSA football: In Class 3A, Princeton will host Genoa Kingston and Seneca is home to face Byron. In Class 5A, Sycamore is at Carmel and Morris travels to Centralia
In Cross-Country local athletes qualified for the state finals: In Class 1A, For Seneca the Lady Irish team of Evelyn O’Connor, Gracie Steffes, Lily Mueller, Keeli Pumphrey, Ashley Alsvig, Natalie Misener and Ruthie Steffes. Also for Seneca in the boys division Austin Aldridge.
In Class 2A Streator’s Kody Danko for the boys division.and Ottawa Lady Pirate Grace Carroll will also compete Saturday in Peoria.Carroll will be the first Ottawa runner to compete at the state finals since the boys teams in the early 1970s.
In girls junior high basketball, the Shepherd 8th Grade Lady Rams defeated Bureau Valley 40-25 to win the Starved Rock Conference Championship. Ashlynn Ganiere led the way with 20 points, Reese Purcell and Karsyn Moore each had 6 points.
The Chicago Bears were unable to slow down the Cowboys offense in a 49-29 loss at AT&T Stadium. Quarterback Justin Fields threw for 151 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 60 yards and a score. The Bears fall to 3-5 and will host the Dolphins this Sunday.
The Bills beat the Packers 27-17 in Buffalo on Sunday Night Football.
On Monday Night Football, The Cleveland Browns will host the Cincinnati Bengals in a Halloween clash at First-Energy Stadium.
Over the weekend in College Football: #13 Illinois earned a road victory over Nebraska, #22 Notre Dame earned a win at #16 Syracuse, Northwestern extended their losing streak to seven games with a loss to Iowa at Kinnick Stadium and Illinois State lost to North Dakota.
In college basketball exhibition action over the weekend, number-23 Illinois beat Quincy and ISU crushed Wooster. Northern Illinois hosts McKendree tonight.
The Chicago Bulls gave up a go-ahead score in the final minute of their 114-109 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers at United Center on Saturday. The 3-and-4 Bulls visit the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow.
The Blackhawks picked up a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild at United Center. The Hawks are now 4-3-and-2, and will host the Islanders tomorrow night.
The Philadelphia Phillies play host to the Houston Astros for Game Three of the World Series tonight. Each team came away with a victory after the first two games in Houston.
Over in the PGA, Seamus Power won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course.
In NASCAR, Christopher Bell won the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. Bell will be joined by Joey Logano, Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain in the final race of the Cup Series in Phoenix.
