Bids are being taken at the Streator public library for restoration work on the building’s dome. The library was built in 1903. Since 1905, a mural has been on the dome. It’s the work of artist Gustav A. Fuchs.
Library Director Cindy Maxwell says the dome restoration will include repairing plaster and preserving the mural. There will also be electrical work.
A federal Save America’s Treasures Grant announced last December will provide $139,000 for the work. It’s expected to cover half the cost.
