The tangle of poverty and domestic violence was the theme of this year’s message in the Zonta Club luminary walk in Ottawa. Speaking after the walk, Heather Steele from Safe Journeys said the statistics show how hard finances can make it for someone to leave a bad relationship.
Although the message was about low incomes and domestic violence feeding each other, there was also a message that domestic abuse happens across all income levels. And the audience learned about local resources to help survivors get out of bad relationships. A local hotline number is 815-673-1555.
