Results yesterday in Varsity Volleyball:

In the semifinals of the Class 1A Aurora Christian Regional. 

Marquette rallied from behind to beat Indian Creek in three matches. The Crusaders were led by Mary Lechtenberg and Avery Durdan each had nine kills, Kaylee Killelea earned four kills, Eva McCallum finished with six kills, Lilly Craig added five kills and Maera Jiminez had three aces. 

The Lady Cru will now advance to tonight’s regional championship match against their host Aurora Christian.

At the Semi-Finals at the St Bede Class 1 Regional: The Lady Bruins defeated Henry-Senachwine and Newark held on to beat Putnam County. The Lady Norseman will face their host St Bede in the Championship tonight.

 

Elsewhere in sports

The Bulls secured their second straight victory after dominating the Pacers 124-109 at the United Center.  Zach LaVine led all scorers with 28 points for the Bulls, and every member of the starting five recorded double digit points.  Andre Drummond collected a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench for The Bulls who improved to 3-2 and will visit the Spurs tomorrow night.

 

In team news,  Head coach Billy Donovan says that Lonzo Ball is progressing in his recovery from knee surgery last month, but he didn’t offer a specific time-table on his return. The guard hasn’t played since last January due to a torn meniscus.

 

 

The Chicago Bears sent defensive end Robert Quinn to Philadelphia in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.  The 32-year-old had 18-and-a-half sacks last season, breaking the Bears’ single-season sack record.  However, he has just one sack through seven games this season.

 

A pair of division leaders will clash on Thursday Night Football when the Buccaneers host the Baltimore Ravens in Tampa.

 

In hockey news, The Blackhawks traded Nicolas Beaudin to the Montreal Canadiens yesterday.  In return, the Hawks received center Cam Hillis.

 

The Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers at the United Center tonight. The Hawks are currently 4-2 this season.

 

Over in the PGA, The Butterfield Bermuda Championship begins today at the Port Royal Golf Course.  

 

In baseball news, The St Louis Cardinals announced yesterday that the pitcher Adam Wainwright informed the team he will be returning for the 2023 season. The 41-year-old is just five wins away from reaching 200 career victories.
