Yesterday in postseason Volleyball

Results from the Class 3A Dixon Regional

Ottawa lost to Dixon in two sets. For the Lady Pirates, Ryleigh Stevenson Olivia Evola each had four kills, Mel Pries added three kills and a block, Skylar Dorsey had an ace and a kill, and Haley Wadell finished with an ace.

 

Streator also had their season come to end with a loss to Galesburg. Leading the Lady Bulldogs were Ellie Isermann, Emma Rambo, Sophia Pence and Rilee Talty.

 

At The Class 1A Aurora Christian Regional, The Marquette Lady Crusaders cruised past Mooseheart.

 

Results from the Class 1A St. Bede Regional, The host Lady Bruins held on to defeat Woodland and Henry-Senachwine ended Serena’s season in two matches.

 

The Seneca Lady Irish was handed an upset by Pontiac At the Class 2A Seneca Regional.

 

The LP Lady Cavaliers knocked off their host Geneseo in the Class 3A Regional.

 

The LP / Ottawa CO-OP swim team hosted Macomb and Metamora in a triangular event. Individual winners for LPO were Clara Guglielmetti in the 200 Freestyle and Addy Nance in the 100 Backstroke. 

Team winners were Guglielmetti, Kailey Goetsch, Lilly Miller, Evvie Jeppson in the 200  Freestyle Relay and Jeppson, Nance, Guglielmetti and Mikenna DeSpain in the 400 Freestyle Relay  

 

Junior High Sports Girls Basketball

Marquette Academy 8th grade team won 41-8 at St Mary in Pontiac. Morgan Collins led the Lady Knights with 18 points.

 

The Shepherd 7th graders lost to Bureau Valley 20-18 at the Starved Rock Conference Tournament. Kennedy Kane finished with 12 points. The Lady Rams now play for 3rd place against Peru Parkside tonight.

 

Elsewhere in Sports

The Blackhawks are on a four-game winning streak after a 4-2 victory over the Florida Panthers at United Center.  The Blackhawks took a 3-0 lead into the third period, but the Panthers fought back to make it a one-goal game.  Jonathan Toews scored an empty-netter in the game’s final minute to seal the victory.  Patrick Kane got his first goal of the season, while Taylor Raddysh and Philipp Kurashev also lit the lamp. The Hawks improved to 4-2 and are home against the Oilers tomorrow night.

 

The Chicago Bulls are back in action against the Indiana Pacers at the United Center tonight.  The Bulls beat the Celtics on Monday to improve to 2-and-2 on the season.  Meanwhile, the Pacers enter the contest with a 1-and-3 record. 

 

The first college basketball coaches poll has been released and the North Carolina Tar Heels are on top of the rankings. Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky and the defending national champion Kansas Jayhawks round out the rest of the top five.  After making it to the Final Four, Duke is ranked eighth and Villanova is currently 17th in the country.  Oregon, Michigan, Illinois, Texas Tech and Dayton are the teams that close out the top 25.
