The weekend started with high school football.
On WCMY, Marquette won big on the road at Sherrard. The Crusaders will begin round one of the playoffs on Saturday at Gould Stadium when they face Morrison. Kickoff is at 1pm.
On 95.3 JackFM, Ottawa were winners over Woodstock at King Field. With the victory, The Pirates are back in the playoffs and will travel to take on Mahomet-Seymour on Friday at 7PM. Hear both games on 93.5 1430 WCMY and online at 1430 WCMY DOT COM.
Other local teams going to the football playoffs this weekend: St Bede will host Forreston, Seneca is home to face Winnebago, Princeton will host Peotone, Hall is at Sacred Heart-Griffin, Sycamore is home to take on Westinghouse and LP are on the road at Morris.
Results in Cross- Country
Ottawa finished 2nd to their host at the Class 2A Morris Regional in the girls division. The Lady Pirates Grace Carroll placed fifth and Kendra Martin. The Streator team placed 11th with Abby Pierce finishing 36th and Lily Kupec 52nd.
Also at the Class 2A Morris Regional, In the boys race Streator Kody Danko won the individual championship. For the Ottawa team, Liam Tipple had a 10th-place finish and Lucas Farabaugh was 22nd.
The Seneca Girls team placed 2nd and the Boys finished 4th as they hosted the Class 2A Regional.Evelyn O’Connor and Austin Aldridge both finished in 2nd place as individuals for the Irish. Marquette’s Maggie Jewett is also advancing to Sectionals by earning 18th place for the Lady Crusaders.
The LP/ Ottawa CO-OP swim team competed at the Northern Illinois Independent Invitational at Byron High School. Top results for LPO: Addy Nance won the 500 Yard Freestyle and placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle, Lily Mustered placed second in the 100 backstroke and 3rd in the 100 Yard Butterfly, Mikenna DeSpain was 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley, Evvie Jeppson finished 3rd in the 100 Yard Freestyle and Emily Swanson finished 3rd in the 500 Yard Freestyle
Both Shepherd teams competed with Fieldcrest in girls Junior High basketball. The 7th graders lost 27-26. Kennedy Kane led the way with 20 points. The 8th grade team won 35-25. Ashlynn Ganiere led the Lady Rams with 22 points.
The Astros and Phillies will square off in the World Series after both won league pennants Yesterday. Houston swept the Yankees with a 6-5 win in Game Four of the American League Championship Series in New York. Philadelphia punched their ticket to their first World Series since 2009 after rallying past the Padres 4-3 in Game Five of the NLCS. Game one of the World Series is scheduled for Friday.
Other MLB news, The White Sox is reporting that Ozzie Guillen will interview for the vacant managerial role this week. Guillen led the Sox to a World Series win in 2005.
On Sunday Night Football, The Dolphins won 16-10 over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Miami.
The Chicago Bears are back in action tonight when they visit the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Monday Night Football. The 2-and-4 Bears are looking to end a three-game losing streak after falling to the Commanders on Thursday Night Football last week.
The Blackhawks scored two goals in the third period to beat the Seattle Kraken 5-4 at United Center. The Hawks improve to 3-2 and are home against Florida tomorrow night.
The Chicago Bulls blew an early lead during a 128-96 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the United Center. The Bulls fall to 1-2 and will host the Celtics tonight.
Notre Dame cruised to a win at home over UNLV, Northwestern lost at Maryland, NIU lost to Ohio and ISU beat Indiana State. The Illini were on a bye but still moved up two spots in the top-25 and are now ranked 18th.
Over in the PGA, Rory McIlroy celebrated a victory at the CJ Cup in South Carolina.
In NASCAR, Kyle Larson won the checkered flag at the Dixie Vodka 400 in Miami.
