COVID-19 surge happening again at LaSalle Veteran’s Home

COVID-19 cases are going up again at the LaSalle veteran’s home. The Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs says 23 staff and 42 residents have tested positive for the virus and have been moved into isolation. The department says everyone who tested positive is experiencing only cold-like symptoms and no one has been hospitalized. IDVA Acting Director Terry Prince, the IDVA Senior Infection Preventionist, the State Medical Officer, and the Illinois Department of Public Health are providing assistance at the home. Prince says right now residents are getting health screens every four hours, staff are getting tested for the virus during each shift change, and everyone is social distancing and wearing masks. Family members are still allowed to visit but the IDVA is highly recommending that they stay home until the outbreak is taken care of. Ottawa St. Rep. Lance Yednock says he and his office are ready to assist in any way possible and is extremely grateful to the IDVA for caring for the staff and residents.
