Contracts approved for Streator ambulance service in neighboring areas

Streator’s city council last night approved three agreements to provide ambulance service to areas outside the city. One of the hardest to negotiate was with Reading Township Fire Protection District. It can afford $25,000 per year for now, but Streator wants $115,000. Fire department treasurer Tom Metzke says voters must approve a tax referendum if the district is to keep ambulance service. The question is going on the ballot in April.

The other agreements are with Long Point and Allen Township. Other communities that were served by private company AMT contracted for ambulance service elsewhere.
