Illinois American Water’s Firefighter Grant Program will allow six fire departments in southern LaSalle County to make equipment purchases. Each department is getting $1,000. Streator will use the money to replace four gas meters that monitor oxygen levels, carbon monoxide levels, explosive gas levels, and sewer gas levels. Grand Ridge will be updating water hose and adapters to get the maximum flow out of a fire hydrant. Leonore will purchase more fire gear, Reading is getting stabilization struts which helps lift cars up, Long Point will buy new radios, and Allen Township will get hose and nozzles for a new pump/tanker they are buying.
