Results in Volleyball 

At the Tri-County Conference Tournament. Marquette won in two sets over their host Seneca to claim the Championship. Leading the Lady Crusaders were   Eva McCallum, Avery Durdan,Lindsey Kaufmann and Kaylee Killelea. Top performers for the Lady Irish in the loss were Neely Hougas, Sophie Cato and Faith Baker. 

 

The Ottawa Lady Pirates won at home in three matches over Sycamore. Olivia Evola led the way with five kills, five aces, Mel Pries earned four aces, three blocks, Alyssa Malmassari and Ryleigh Stevenson each finished with four kills.

 

Streator Varsity lost to Herscher. Top performers for the Lady Bulldogs in the loss were Sophia Pence, Alexa Jacobs and Emma Rambo.  

 

Serena were winners over Leland in two matches. Paige Sexton led the Lady Huskers with 13 kills, 3 aces, Makayla McNally added 3 kills and Paisley Twait  finished with 5 aces and 3 kills. 

 

The LP / Ottawa CO-OP swim team won at home over Geneseo. Winners for individual events were Clara Guglielmetti, Lily Miller, Addy Nance, Kailey Goetsch and Lily Mustered.  Relay team winners were Miller, Guglielmetti, Mustered, Goetsch, Nance, Mikenna DeSpain, Christie Ricci, Anna Ricci and Evelyn Clayton 

 

The Shepherd 8th Grade Lady Rams defeated Wallace 32-29 to win the River City Shootout at Kingman Gym. Ashlynn Ganiere led the team with 8 points, 12 rebounds, Reese Purcell added 8 points 6 rebounds and Karsyn Moore and Meredith Waldron each scored 6 points.

On Thursday Night Football, The Bears got stopped at the one-yard line late in the 4th quarter in a 12-7 loss to the Washington Commanders at Soldier Field. The turnover on downs sealed the loss for the Monsters of the Midway. Justin Fields passed for 190 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while also picking up 88 yards on the ground.  The Bears fall to 2-4.

 

In the MLB playoffs

The Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Mariners in their AL Division Series with a 4-2 win in Game Two in Houston. The other ALDS game between the Yankees and Guardians was postponed due to inclement weather in New York,  The teams will now play Game Two of the best-of-five series today, with the Yankees up one-game-to-none.  

 

Both NL Division Series will also resume today.  The Braves face the Phillies in Philadelphia all tied up at one game apiece.  The Dodgers and Padres will meet in San Diego with that series also tied 1-1.

 

The Blackhawks couldn’t get one past Logan Thompson in a 1-0 loss to the Golden Knights in Las Vegas.  The Hawks managed just 25 shots in the losing effort. The Blackhawks drop to 0-2 and will visit the Sharks tomorrow night.

 

This weekend in College Football

Notre Dame will try to extend their winning streak to four games when they host Stanford. The Fighting Illini go for their fifth consecutive win when they host the Minnesota Gophers at Memorial Stadium, Northern Illinois is at Eastern Michigan, The ISU Redbirds hosts South Dakota 

 

The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs resume in Las Vegas this weekend in the South Point 400.  Chase Elliott remains in first place while Joey Logano, Ross Chastain and Christopher Bell round out the top four.
