Peru is going to have a full-time city attorney. In a 6-2 vote Monday, the city council approved having Scott Schweickert change from corporate council to city attorney. Alderman Jason Edgcomb was one of the aldermen who voted against the change.

Schweickert says there’s a lot of work to do and he’s already working with the alderman.

Mayor Ken Kolowski says although he wasn’t in favor of the decision, he is 110% behind Schweickert. He also says this wasn’t about the ability of what Schweickert can bring to the city, but it didn’t seem to be the right move at the time.

Schweickert says he still has a couple of other matters to work on before he leaves his private practice to work for the city although he didn’t anything specific.
