The weekend started with a couple road wins in football.
On WCMY, the Marquette Crusaders were winners at Leroy High School. On 95.3 JackFM, the Ottawa Pirates got a big road win at Woodstock North.
Other results from High School football: Streator suffered a loss on Homecoming by Peotone, LP celebrated a win on homecoming night over Woodstock, Top ranked Morris took a loss on the road at Richmond and Hall defeated Kewanee.
In Volleyball
Marquette defeated Serena in two sets. Leading the Lady Cru was Kaylee Killelea with 12 assists and 4 kills. Eva Mccallum had 9 kills, Maera Jimenez added 4 kills and 3 aces in the victory.
Streator lost to Peotone. Ellie Isermann and Sophia Pence each had 4 kills, Emma Rambo added 3 kills,in the loss.
Earlville won at DePue in two straight sets. The Lady Red Raiders were led by Mady Olson and Hannah Pfaff each with four kills.
At the La Salle County Cross Country Invitational in Streator, The Bulldogs Kody Danko was the winner in the men’s division. Evelyn O’Connor from Seneca was the winner for the women.
Ottawa won as a team in the girls division, Leading the way for the Lady Pirates was Grace Carroll finishing 2nd, Kendra Martin in 3rd and Addyson Miller taking 4th.
Marquette girls finished in 4th place. Maggie Jewett led the Lady Crusaders with a 6th place finish. Joe Amicon and Carson Zellers competed for the Marquette boys.
Ottawa won 4-1 over sandwich in the seventh-place match of the Interstate 8 Conference Tournament.
Both Shepherd teams defeated Streator Northlawn in girls Junior High Basketball. The 7th graders won 28-5. Kennedy Kane had 17 points and 12 steals. The 8th Grade team won 36-2. Ashlyn Ganiere led the way with 13 points. Meredith Waldron and Reese Purcell each added 8 points for the Lady Rams.
The White Sox held off the San Diego Padres in a 2-1 win at Petco Park. The Southsiders have won three of their last four contests to improve to 79-and-80.
The USA Today reports that the White Sox manager Tony La Russa will announce his retirement today at Guaranteed Rate Field. The 77-year-old Hall of Famer took over the Sox in 2021 after being out of the league since 2011.
The Cubs defeated the Reds 8-1 at Wrigley Field. Marcus Stroman earned his sixth win after striking out seven over six scoreless innings. The North-Siders wrap up their season with a road series against the Cincinnati Reds that begins tonight.
The Cardinals lost 7-5 to Pittsburgh. Albert Pujols hit his 702nd career home run. The Cards wrap up the regular season with a road series against the Pirates that begins tonight.
The Chicago Bears fell back to .500 after a 20-12 loss to the Giants in East Rutherford. The Bears are now 2-2 and will next visit the Minnesota Vikings.
Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buccaneers 41-31 in a Sunday night battle in Tampa.
The NFC West is in the Monday Night Football spotlight this week as the Rams and 49ers renew their rivalry tonight.

Illinois dominated on the road over Wisconsin, Northwestern lost at Penn State, Northern Illinois lost in double-overtime to Ball State and The Illinois State RedBirds fell to Southern Illinois.
The Chicago Blackhawks were shut-out by the Minnesota Wild in a 3-0 preseason loss in Milwaukee. The Blackhawks fall to 1-3-and-0 in exhibition play. They visit Minnesota on Thursday.
The Chicago Fire beat Cincinnati 3-2 at TQL Stadium on Saturday. They wrap up their MLS season at home against New England this Sunday.
Chase Elliott took home a NASCAR win at the YellaWood 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway.
