Illinois St. Sen. Jason Barickman says abolishing cash bail through the SAFE-T Act is an overreach. The Bloomington Republican says the way it reads will skew things more in favor of the accused rather than the accusers. He also says he disagrees with the way it was passed in the Senate.
The bill was authorized by the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus and was later signed into law by Gov. Pritzker. Barickman is running for reelection in the newly redrawn 53rd senate district that covers parts of southern LaSalle County.
