There have been some changes made to Marseilles sidewalk replacement program that helps repair existing sidewalks that aren’t in good condition. The city council approved an ordinance that allows residents to include curb and gutter replacement as well. Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says the city has gotten some extra money for the program they can use. He says gambling has gone up which helps the city’s general fund, so now the city can dedicate some money to the program.

The city had received calls from residents asking about the program and curb and gutter replacement weren’t included at the time. Hollenbeck says the council agreed that is should be added. He says residents could receive up to $2,000 in reimbursements. It’s $5 a square foot for sidewalks and $30 per linear foot for curbing.

He also says the contractor working on sidewalks was already in town and the city wanted to take advantage of that. But this doesn’t mean that anyone with existing sidewalks will be able to be a part of the program. According to the city’s Code of Ordinances the city council has to approve a project before the project can start. The city could also deny the project.
