The White Sox managed just two hits during a 4-0 loss to the Twins in Minnesota.  Yoan Moncada had a double and a walk in the losing effort, while Lance Lynn was charged with his seventh loss after giving up four runs in five innings. 

 

Tonight the Sox continue their road series with the Twins. Broadcast begins at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10 on 93.5 1430 WCMY.

    

In other team news, The South-Siders are shutting down shortstop Tim Anderson and starting pitcher Michael Kopech for the rest of the season.

 

Yan Gomes stroked a go-ahead double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Cubs past the Phillies 2-1 at Wrigley Field.  Christopher Morel hit his 15th home run in the victory.  The North-Siders will send Hayden Wesneski to the mound against Philadelphia tonight.

 

The Cardinals clinched the NL Central crown with a 6-2 win over the Brewers in Milwaukee. Miles Mikolas earned his 12th win after giving up just one run in six innings.  The Cards improved to 90-and-65 and have made it to the playoffs in each of the last four seasons.  Jose Quintana takes the mound against Milwaukee tonight.

 

The Blackhawks gave up three goals in the third period during a 4-1 preseason loss to the St. Louis Blues at the United Center. The Hawks take on the Red Wings in their second preseason game tonight.

 

The Chicago Bears will be without one of their top wide receivers for at least four games.  The team placed Byron Pringle on injured reserve yesterday.  Pringle injured his calf during the first half of the game against Houston last Sunday.  

 

Local Sports

The Ottawa Lady Pirates finished 3rd at the I8 Conference Golf Tournament. Hannah Duggan finished 5th overall, Caroline Cooney was 12th and Marlie Orlandi was 13th. Kaneland was the overall winner with Sycamore taking 2nd.

 

Multiple results in Volleyball

Ottawa lost at home in two matches to Rochelle. Top performers for the Lady Pirates were Olivia Evola, Ayla Dorsey and Chey Joachim. 

 

Streator defeated Lisle in two matches. For the Lady Bulldogs, Ellie Isermann had 4 kills, 2 assists, Bella Dean earned 3 kills, 2 digs and Alexa Jacobs finished with 3 kills, 1 block.  

 

Newark won at DePue. Lauren Ulrich led the Lady Norseman with four kills and five aces.  

 

Somonauk lost at home to Serena in two matches. Josie Rader finished with four kills and 13 digs in the Lady Bobcats loss.

 

Earlville were winners on the road at Leland. Brooklyn Guelde had six aces and nine assists for the Lady Red Raiders.

 

In Cross Country

The Seneca Boys and Girls teams won the Tri County Conference Championship. Evelyn O’Connor and Austin Aldridge both won their division.  For Marquette, The Crusaders’ Maggie Jewett finished fifth followed by Olivia Tamblyn in 13th and Morgan Nelson took 15th. For the boys,  Joe Amicon placed 23rd for the CRU.

 

Ottawa finished seventh as a team at the El Paso-Gridley Invitational. Top finishers for the Pirates were. Grace Carroll, Addyson Miller and Eva Heimsoth in the girls division. For the boys, Liam Tipple, Lucas Farabaugh and Oliver Ruvalcaba.

 

Ottawa were winners on the road at LP in tennis. Layne Krug won in singles. The team of Jenna Smithmeyer & Rylee O’Fallon, the duo of Isabel Heimsoth and Emma Walker and the team of Mika Moreland and Makenzie Eichelkraut  all won in doubles.

 

Streator lost 4-3 in soccer at Reed-Custer. Declan O’Connor scored twice and Noah Russow also added a goal for the Bulldogs in the loss.

 

Shepherd competed with Channahon in Girls Junior High Basketball. The 7th Graders lost 40-13. Leela Gromm finished with 6 points. The 8th Graders won 34-28. Leading the way for the Lady Rams were Ashlynn Ganiere with 16 points and Meredith Waldron added 8 points in the victory.
