LaSalle signs compliance agreement with IEPA for yard waste drop-off site

The city of LaSalle is trying to make sure that only yard waste is being placed in the city’s yard waste drop-off site. Mayor Jeff Grove says residents have been very accepting after the city banned burning leaves in the city. But after the city did a controlled burn because of a lot of yard waste, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency was called. They discovered that other materials besides yard waste were burned. Grove says the city gave the IEPA an expansive plan about what they are doing to make sure only yard waste ends up in the drop-off. The city has installed cameras and is cutting hours allowed to dispose of yard waste to make sure other materials don’t end up in the drop-off site.

Grove also says residents have been keeping an eye out for people who might be dumping other materials. The city council approved an ordinance last week that confirms a compliance agreement with the IEPA.
